Remember when we were little and would push impatiently against the kid taking too long at the front of the water-fountain line, chiding "leave some for the fishes?" If politics were like elementary school, a little jostling peer pressure would be enough to dissuade those taking more than their fair share. But in the grown-up world, unfortunately, things like secret policy riders, sneakily inserted at the eleventh hour into the more-than-two-years in the making farm bill, are far more enduring, and far less susceptible to the logic of peers.
Though the farm bill was ultimately rejected, there's still plenty to fight about, from the politics of dying almond groves in the Central Valley to the politics of medical pot in the North. Don't get me started right now, though, 'cause I just don't have the time; I've been working to make things better in my own small way, planning for the annual Raindance Presents Chinese New Year Celebration at 1015 Folsom.
I've been whipping up horses (of course), plus cranes and flowers and fishes (oh my!). But fear not, these giant paper koi don't need anything in terms of water . . . they just need a lot of folks to show up, get down, and have a good time! Check out some in-progress shots below:
